Electrosex

Electro-Sex is sexual stimulation brought about by mild electric shocks on the surface of the skin or internally through the use of butt plugs or sounds. In general there are two kinds of units for Electro-Sex: the high voltage ones which deliver a burning, tingling or shocking sensation by the spark from the unit striking directly on the skin and the low voltage ones which are designed to cause muscular contractions.

Electro-sex is based on the stimulation of the nerves and muscles. Electric stimulation can be used on almost all of the body regions especially around and on the genitals or erogenous zones. If applied correctly, a safe amount of electrical energy is used to trigger pain, pleasure, tension or relaxation.

Knowledge is Power

Your epidermis covers your whole body, yet not all skin is created equal. Some areas of skin are thinner than others, and other areas have more nerve endings, more or less fatty tissue, and dryness changes things up too. Remember when you’re playing with currents;

  • Thick and dry skin is sensitive (calf)
  • Thin and dry skin is more sensitive. (inner thigh)
  • Wet or sweaty skin is about 10% more sensitive.
  • External mucosa are much more sensitive. (head of the cock)
  • Internal mucosa are extremely more sensitive. (inside the arse)
  • Skin injuries like cuts or scar tissue resist current around 90 times less than healthy tissue. Keep those out of electro play due to the risk of causing damage without realising it.

What happens when you shock…

Genitals

If the twitching muscles are the ones in the anogenital area, the effect can be rather interesting and pleasurable, since a series of pulses causes a strange deep massage with masturbating effects.

Major Muscles

The leg and arm muscles, but others too, generate remarkable power. Making them involuntarily contract can be hazardous, as the pulse turns into potentially violent kicks and punches. Holding them, for example with bondage, is even worse: the contraction happens anyway, and can cause sprains, pulled muscles or – in extreme cases – broken bones.

Cardiorespiratory System

The heart keeps beating, and keeps you alive, through electricity. It’s what keeps the muscle contracting and fulling the body with fresh oxygen-filled blood. If you interrupt, change, or stop that rhythm, you can cause serious harm – or death. There is an often quoted rule of never use electricity above the belt which can be good advice for first timers looking to keep things safe – however not always for experienced electro users. Also, it’s possible to cause heart problems when shocking other areas of the body if the shock is great enough. even long sessions of small pulses can “squeeze” the blood vessels interfering with normal circulation.

Head to your local kink and fetish store for advice on the right devices to buy, using pads and electrodes, and to pick up things like electro gel. Staff are experts in the gear they sell and will have great safety tips for safe and hot play.

If what contracts at the wrong time is the diaphragm, a respiratory crisis could occur. If it’s the heart, you are looking at a state of fibrillation that can easily result in infarction. This is the main cause of medical emergencies related to electrostimulation and should not be underestimated even in the case of perfectly healthy and fit subjects. This is even more true for people who have already experienced cardiac issues or who use a pacemaker.

The risks listed above are the reason for a frequently quoted rule in BDSM: “Never use electricity above the belt.” This is good advice, but also a very inaccurate simplification. On one hand, in fact, it doesn’t take into account that cardiac episodes can also be caused by other games, such as, for example, a prolonged series of small spasms in the legs that “squeeze” the blood vessels interfering with normal circulation; on the other hand, it excludes a whole set of activities that don’t involve the current passing through the heart or diaphragm, which we will see in a few pages.

Keep It Safe

Conduct yourself safely

There are a number of guidelines to make Electro-Sex safer:

  • Always use batteries specified for the product
  • Water-based lube or olive oil will improve the conductivity of the electrical charge, which plays a part in avoiding skin damage and can increase sensitivity. You can also buy electroconductive gel from adult stores which should be used with non-insertable accessories, use water-based lube for all insertables, silicone lube reduces conductivity so should be avoided.
  • Avoid using electro toys above the waist if suffering from a heart condition or epilepsy, electro toys should not be used on the chest area take care when using the abdominal area.
  • Some recreational drugs such as cocaine, poppers, and amphetamines can put stress on the heart and decrease sensitivity if you are using drugs or alcohol, start slowly and keep an eye on the time to avoid injury
  • Start with the low settings on toys and increase slowly. Ask the bottom when they first feel anything, wait for a minute or two before increasing the intensity further. If the intensity is too high, go back two increments to help the bottom relax. Remember, the bottom is the one who ultimately controls what they can take
  • Body jewelry can get very hot and damage the skin during Electro-Sex. It is recommended that you remove body jewelry (particularly around sensitive areas like the genitals and mouth) when engaging in electro-sex. If you cannot remove jewelry, silicone based lube can be used to decrease the stimulation or when larger pieces of jewelry are involved, they can be taped over with insulating tape.

Toys

BOY TOYS

There is a wide range of electric sex toys designed specifically for the human body. Some use batteries and others work with direct electricity supply. The equipment used in Electro-Sex includes units used for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), which normally consist of a “box” and electrodes connected by wiring and toys such as anal plugs, dildos, cock rings, sounds, electrodes or clamps that have been designed to carry electricity and cause muscular contraction.

In contrast to TENS units, violet wands are hand held devices that do not necessarily need to be in contact with the skin to deliver electrical stimulation. They transmit electricity directly from the unit to a person or from one person to the next using the human body as a conductor. There are many ways to use violet wands during an Electro-Sex session, but they require prior training or experience for maximum safety and pleasure. In An Emergency

 WHAT IF SHIT GOES WRONG?

  • If you or your partner get onto trouble during electro play go directly to the emergency department of your nearest hospital without delay or call an ambulance.
  • In an emergency dial 000 and remember paramedics and emergency workers have seen it all! No matter what you’ve done there’s no need to be embarrassed.
  • Not quite an emergency? Not sure if you need to go to the hospital? Give Nurse On Call 24 hours a day for advice on 1300 60 60 24

Not an emergency but got a question about electro play? Give us a holler and we’ll happily answer your questions about keeping your session safe and hot!
